History

History of Knowledge Systems (KS)

Knowledge Systems (KS) was founded by David Jedrlinic in 2001 in a very tumultuous time right before 9/11 occurred. The first company project at the U.S. State Department was canceled in the aftermath of the attack on America. The company quickly adapted and began working as a boutique consulting firm providing IT consulting to commercial organizations in Maryland. The company focused from day one on being an employer of choice to employees by offering outstanding compensation and benefits along with interesting project work. In fact, the first employee hired by the company is still with Knowledge Systems today. Low attrition and customer satisfaction and word of mouth helped the company grow.

In 2005, Knowledge Systems expanded to Virginia and began consulting for Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and Sallie Mae on IT systems modernization projects. David Sawyer joined the company as a partner in 2006 after a successful and award-winning career as an IT Director at MCI, Digex, and Envision EMI. Sawyer helped grow the company – adding Wynn Las Vegas, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), and others to the growing list of customers.

In 2009, Knowledge Systems shifted focus during the financial housing crisis to federal government contracting. The company grew to support the State Department and the Intelligence Community and quickly expanded joining the Washington Technology Fast 50 list in 2015 as the #25 fastest growing company. In 2016, Gary Long joined the company as a partner after his role as CEO at Strategic Business Systems (SBS) where he grew the company into a nationwide storage services business before exiting in an acquisition by Brocade. Long brought the expertise to help the company continue its growth.

Knowledge Systems is 100% committed to building and supporting an outstanding cadre of employees and consultants to deliver exceptional expertise, experience, and results to customers. The company is proud to be certified as a Great Place to Work three years in a row and continues to build new capabilities and solutions to support the challenging missions of its customers.
